SunESS Power: a scalable energy storage system

What SunESS Power is and its advantages

Looking for a reliable power source but finding it hard to calculate the exact capacity you'll need for years ahead? With ordinary systems you either overpay for extra capacity or have to buy new equipment again once you start running short of energy.

SunESS Power solves this problem.

SunESS Power is a universal ESS (Energy Storage System) that consists of:

  • a hybrid inverter with a power rating from 5 to 60 kW;

  • modular batteries from 5 to 160 kWh;

  • an intelligent BMS;

  • a built-in DC voltage optimizer;

  • a protected IP65 enclosure.

This is a ready-made all-in-one uninterruptible power system (inverter + batteries + smart protection) that is assembled like a construction set to fit your current needs.

Why is this convenient? Explaining in simple terms

Instead of complex technical connections, SunESS Power follows a simple principle:

  • One battery unit is 5 kWh of capacity.

  • Need more? The units simply stack on top of each other (like Lego bricks), forming a rack. Up to 4 battery units (20 kWh) can be assembled into one such rack (in other words, a cluster).

  • Is one rack not enough? Two such clusters can be connected to a single inverter. If you have a large production facility, the system allows you to combine up to 4 inverters in parallel.

This solves the dealers' problem of selecting equipment for the end consumer. In effect, the dealer gets a universal solution for the majority of clients — from basic home backup power to high-capacity commercial systems. Thanks to this, equipment selection, staff training, service maintenance, and warehouse procurement control happen faster.

What does it deliver in practice?

  • For a private home or cottage. Start with the minimum — a 5 kW inverter and 1–2 battery units. This is enough to run a refrigerator, lighting, a pump, and the internet during prolonged outages.

  • For small businesses (a coffee shop, pharmacy, office). The power scales up to 10–20 kW to keep coffee machines, computers, and air conditioning systems running without interrupting customer service.

  • For large enterprises and production facilities. The system "ramps up" to 60 kW of power and a huge 160 kWh of capacity. This is enough to power machine tools, warehouse complexes, or shopping centers.

Why is SunESS Power safe and durable?

  1. All-inclusive. The inverter, batteries, and intelligent management system (BMS) are already housed in a single enclosure. The components are perfectly compatible with each other out of the box.

  2. Dust and moisture protection (IP65). The system can be installed even in semi-basement rooms or garages — it is not afraid of dampness.

  3. Smart distribution. The built-in optimizer makes sure the batteries charge evenly, which extends their service life many times over.

One more advantage worth dwelling on in more detail is the highest energy density in its class (105 Wh/dm³). Such systems are compact, take up less space, and are easier to transport and install. In turn, for the end consumer this means a modern ESS without bulky cabinets and complex technical solutions.

Why SunESS batteries last 4 times longer than ordinary ones

LiFePO4 is a safe technology for long-term projects.

SunESS uses LiFePO4 batteries — today this is one of the most reliable types of lithium batteries. They are made for those who buy equipment once and for decades, rather than looking for a new battery every 2–3 years. They have the following advantages:

  • a high level of safety;

  • a low risk of overheating;

  • a long service life;

  • stable operation under load;

  • slow degradation.

At a depth of discharge of 90%, the system provides up to 6000 charge/discharge cycles.

What do 6000 cycles mean in practice?

Ordinary gel or automotive batteries withstand only 300–500 cycles, while standard lithium handles around 1500. SunESS batteries are guaranteed to withstand 6000 full discharge cycles (even if you discharge them almost "to zero" — by 90%).

Simple math: even if the system fully discharges and recharges every day during heavy blackouts, the batteries will work for more than 16 years without losing their efficiency.

Why is this technology beneficial to everyone? Because for the end consumer it means:

  • years of stable operation;

  • predictable payback;

  • minimal risk of service requests.

For the dealer — fewer warranty cases and greater trust in the brand.

Support for old and new batteries — why is it useful?

Many similar systems do not allow you to safely combine old and new batteries, which complicates scaling. This happens because when an old and a new battery are connected, the stronger (new) one "adapts" to the weaker one. This leads to a 30% loss of efficiency and, eventually, to the replacement of the entire set.

SunESS supports the mixed use of new and already-installed batteries. Thanks to intelligent management, the system supports the mixed use of new and already-installed units without any risks.

This is useful for:

  • phased system expansion;

  • upgrading existing ESS;

  • clients who want to gradually increase capacity.

DC optimizer — ease of integration

Usually, battery units operate at low voltage (42–58 V). To transfer this energy to a high-power hybrid inverter, you need very thick, expensive, and rigid cables, as well as massive external matching units.

An individual DC optimizer (voltage booster) is already built into every SunESS module. It automatically raises the voltage from the "base" 42–58 V to a high 350–450 V directly inside the unit itself.

This provides several important advantages:

  • the system is easier to integrate;

  • fast installation;

  • a minimum of additional equipment;

  • better compatibility with different configurations.

Reliable operation even in frost

Most lithium batteries lose efficiency at sub-zero temperatures. SunESS solves this problem with a pre-heating system. The system has built-in heating elements that:

  • support charging at low temperatures;

  • improve operational stability;

  • protect the batteries from degradation.

Thus, the operating temperatures of the batteries are as follows:

  • charge: from -10°C to +50°C;

  • discharge: from -20°C to +50°C.

For dealers in Ukraine this is especially important because of seasonal temperature swings.

Safety and intelligent management

SunESS is equipped with a modern BMS that constantly monitors a multitude of parameters: grid voltage, temperature, state of charge or discharge rate, and voltage fluctuations.

The system automatically responds to any overload, overheating, or critical deviations. The equipment independently assesses the situation and, in case of danger, quickly switches over or shuts down.

Why it is profitable for dealers to work with SunESS Power

  • One platform — many solutions. The ability to cover different market segments with a single product.

  • Easy installation. A modular system and a minimal amount of additional wiring.

  • Scalability. The client can start with a small system and gradually expand it.

  • High margins in the ESS segment. The energy storage market is currently growing rapidly.

  • Reliability. In-house battery production and a modern BMS.

  • Minimizing service risks

  • LiFePO4 and multi-level protection significantly reduce the number of issues in the system's operation.

In-house Sunwoda battery production — the key to consistent quality

You will not depend on third-party suppliers who may sell "gray-market" or used equipment under the guise of new. The brand independently controls:

  • production quality;

  • certification;

  • consistency of specifications;

  • battery safety.

For dealers this is critically important, since the battery is the most expensive and most critical component of an energy storage system.
